Julz Vargas ’24
During her freshman spring, she studied in Athens, Greece, followed by a summer term at the Spanish Academy, Academia Tica, in Jacó, Costa Rica. In the summer of 2022, Julz worked at Hversdagssafn, The Museum of Everyday Life, in Ísafjörður, Iceland, a visual anthropology museum where she collaborated with the museum directors and engaged with the local community. Julz then spent the fall of her junior year studying in Madrid, Spain, with Middlebury College. Last spring, Julz was a Knapp Fellow and gathered archaeological research on the Wellesley College Hall Fire. This fall, Julz continues to work alongside Dr. Minor and the Paulson Initiative as an archaeology research assistant gathering oral histories of Wellesley’s campus. Additionally, she is co-captain of the Wellesley Softball team and has begun learning French! Professionally, Julz aspires to foster cross-cultural connections through community-based anthropological research, amplifying inclusive and diverse media about global cultures, foods, and people, to encourage individuals to engage more wholly with the world.
